Consultation is now open for Harrow's new local plan. The local plan is crucial to shaping the council's approach to housing needs, economic sustainability, health and protecting the suburban character of our borough, including Stanmore. It will play a key role in shaping Harrow for decades.
Zak has taken a particular interest in the topic of planning since being elected to Harrow Council and has asked questions on this topic in his role as a member of Harrow's Planning Policy Advisory Panel.
Local Plans are prepared by the Council in consultation with the community. They set out a vision and a framework for the future development of the borough over the next 20 years.
Local Plans are the most important planning document produced by the Council, therefore it is important that they are based on evidence and represent the views and expectations of the community they serve. Local Plans guide decisions about development proposals and cover the best places for development to occur.
Harrow currently has a local plan, which was adopted in 2012-2013. Local Plans are required to be reviewed periodically, and changes since 2013 in national planning policy, the London Plan, the property market, economy and society mean that a new local plan is needed. A new draft Local Plan has been developed, and Harrow Council is inviting submissions on this draft Plan.
